Betty was a Life Member of the Cherrydale Volunteer Fire Department, Arlington County, Virginia's first fire company, along with her husband Marvin, who is and has been the President of the fire company for many years.
She and numerous other members were instrumental in the fund raising Bingo games hosted at the upstairs community hall in decades past. She also was a member of the Virginia State Firefighters Association and attended many state conventions along with other members of the fire company.
