Carol Ann Atwell

1948-2015

Born November 11, 1948 in Muskogee, Ok to Tom Gayland and Evelyn Colleen (Moore) Duncan, Carol Ann Atwell passed from this life into heaven on Sunday, January 25, 2015 in her home surrounded by her loving family at the age of 66 years, 2 months and 13 days.

Carol graduated from Liberty High School and from NSU with her Bachelor’s degree in education. She went straight into teaching at Haskell High School where for 30 years she taught typing, business machines and accounting. Carol not only taught subjects but she taught life lessons as well such as having respect for others. She had a very supportive, dynamic haymaker spirit even as a hall monitor. She was cheerleading and senior sponsor having made the trip to six flags 6 times.

Carol gave her life to the Lord at the young age of 9. She spent a very active 60 years in the Liberty Baptist Church where she not only taught Sunday School but was youth leader and Church Secretary and Treasurer. When the Liberty Cemetery was started, Carol was the one who took care of managing the plots. Carol met and married Larry Atwell on May 27, 1969 at the Liberty Baptist Church in Morris. That marriage union was blessed with 4 children: Tommy Atwell and wife Lisa of Haskell, Jeff Atwell and wife DeNaye of Liberty, Carrie Ann Kemp of Liberty, and Angie Gilfillan and husband Chris of Muskogee.

Carol is preceded in death by her mother Evelyn Colleen Duncan. She is survived by her father Tom Gayland Duncan, husband Larry Atwell, children Tommy, Jeff, Carrie and Angie, brother Johnny Duncan and sister Linda Morgan, 6 grandchildren Andrew, Rylee, Madison, Evin, Aiden, Colton and Preslee as well as numerous other family members and a host of friends.

Casket Bearers will include Pete Damme, Ronnie Atwell, Brion Leist, Tom Porter, Jerry Morgan and Eddie Grimmett. Honorary Casket Bearers will be Chris Atwell, Doug Jones, Jim Reece and Charles Grimmett.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 2:00 pm at the Liberty Baptist Church in Morris, Ok. with Rev. Jeff Ward officiating. Interment will follow in the Liberty Cemetery under the direction of Dowdy Funeral Home.
