Annie's daughter Margaret stayed behind in Scotland with her husband Alexander Suttie when the family emigrated to New Zealand. Alexander died in December 1868 and Margaret followed soon after in March 1872 leaving behind two young children.

Annie Gordon nee Donald sent for her two granddaughters Margaret and Charlotte, and organized for them to sail to New Zealand where they lived with her in Christchurch, New Zealand.
