Carl ‘Clif’ Shumaker, age 83, went home to the Lord peacefully Saturday, January 3, 2015 in Medina.

His wife of nearly 60 years, Betty, and his family were by his side. Born December 8, 1931 in Washington, D.C. Clif graduated as an Ensign from the United States Naval Academy in 1955.

He served his country proudly as an Officer on the USS Shenandoah and USS Mahan achieving the rank of Lt. Commander. Following the Navy, his business career was distinguished by his uncompromising honesty and strong work ethic. He was a master marketer and builder of companies. He pursued his hobbies and interests with the same enthusiasm --- woodworking, model railroading, making fishing lures, home improvement, gardening, and a voracious reader of nonfiction. Clif was a member of St. Andrews the Apostle Catholic Church in Norton, OH.

He is survived by his wife, Betty (Eckenrode) and five children; Clif (Donna), Kathy Simpson, Chris (Carol), Craig, Curtis (Cindy). He was blessed with ten grandchildren; Clif Jr., Stephen (Kristen), Matthew, Daniel, Ashley Simpson, Cory, Anna, Troy, Collin and Cameron. He also leaves his two sisters, Dean (Joe) and Joanne.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, January 9, 2014, 11:00 A.M. at St. Andrews the Apostle Catholic Church, 4022 Johnson Road, Norton, OH 44203. Fr. Maloney will officiate. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the mass from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Military burial will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery at 2 P.M.
