One of a seven man crew that took off from RAF East Wretham (Norfolk) at 23:56 on the 29th of May 1943, in an Avro Lancaster Mk II Bomber S/No. DS627, for a bombing raid on Wuppertal, North Rhineland.
Nothing further was heard after take off and the plane was reported as missing in action, it was later established that they had been shot down by a night fighter and crashed at Hechtel {Limburg} Belgium, there were no survivors and the crew are buried on the same row in Heverlee War Cemetery.
