William Hartman was born in Schuylkill County, Pa., May l, 1824 and departed this life in Gordon, 0. May 16, 1907, at the advanced age of 83 years and 15 days.

He came to Ohio over fifty years ago and lived in Darke County for thirty three years. He was married to Amanda Pontius Feb. 14, 1858. She has journeyed with him for almost fifty years, sharing all the toils and cares that are common to this life. To them 13 children were born, eight sons and five daughters, all of whom are living except one daughter. For nearly two years he has been greatly afflicted, being almost helpless. About 17 years ago, he united with the U. B. Church at Arcanum and changed his manner of living. He leaves wife, twelve children forty three grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

He rests from the toils, pains and sorrows of a long pilgrimage. Peace be to his soul. The funeral was held last Saturday at the M. E. Church at Gordon, burial at Ithaca, Services Conducted by his pastor J. W. Kilbourn.
