Mrs. Marie Rooks Sheets, 82, of 311 Springmoor Drive, Raleigh, died October 11, 2014 at Springmoor Health Center.
She was the daughter of the late Ulysses Hicks and Eunice Pate Rooks of Watha, Pender County, North Carolina.
After graduating from Penderlea High School, she attended Kings Business College in Raleigh. She worked as a secretary at N. C. State College and at the University of California at Davis while her husband Jack pursued graduate studies.
Marie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. During their daughters' formative years, she chose to be a stay-at-home mom and was involved in school, scouting, and church activities. Later, she was employed by the North Carolina General Assembly as an Administrative Assistant for twenty years. After she and Jack moved to Springmoor Retirement Community, they both participated in various volunteer activities and were members of Benson Memorial United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jack to whom she was married 61 years.
She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Susan and Leonard Baker of Raleigh and Nancy and Scott Thomas of Burlington; four grandchildren, Jeffery Thomas Wilson and wife Kate, Benjamin Scott Thomas, Elizabeth Marie Thomas, and Rebecca Elaine Thomas; two great-grandchildren, Jackson Quinn Wilson and Lucy Caroline Wilson; and one sister, Blanche Goodwin of Raleigh.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 13 at 11:00 in the auditorium at Springmoor Retirement Community, 1500 Sawmill Road, Raleigh, with the Rev. Phyllis Mayo officiating. The burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Springmoor Endowment Fund, 1500 Sawmill Road, Raleigh, N.C., or Benson Memorial United Methodist Church, 4706 Creedmoor Rd. Raleigh, NC 27612 or charity of your choice.
The family wishes to express their deep appreciation and gratitude for the exceptional care given both parents during their residency at Springmoor Lifecare Retirement Community.
