Benajah was the son of Thomas and Ann Jane Herring Sutton. This story about him was told to me by my grandfather, Roland Fields. He said that there was a school at Piney Grove and Benajah attended it. The cemetery was not there then and where it is now was the playground. The boys played ball there during recess. Benajah always held second base. He was so adamant about that position on the team that he said that he wanted to be buried on second base when he died. When the church was built and the cemetery was established, he laid claim to the spot where second base had always been. Benajah was stricken as a young man and died at the age of 32. He was laid to rest at the spot of his beloved second base. Other family members are buried in adjacent plots.
