He enlisted on March 12, 1862 as a private, in the 49th Infantry North Carolina Troops Company A, at the age of 32. Pre-enlistment occupation was listed as laborer. Residing in Rutherford County, North Carolina at the time of enlistment. He appears on a Roll of Honor for the 49th Infantry North Carolina Troops, Company A. He was captured by the enemy and confined to Capital Prison March 1, 1865 at Washington DC. He moved to York County South Carolina after the war. He is listed on the York County South Carolina census but on the York County South Carolina Confederate Pension List 1907 as deceased.
