Actor. He was born Nikolai Rutkovski in the Russian Empire, in what is now part of Moldova. He attended the Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in Bucharest and was the first chorister at "Opera in Cluj." He played at the National Theatre in Bucharest, the Theatre Giulesti and the Theatre in Pitesti. He acted in over 70 movies and TV series, including the western "Apache," the Romanian TV series "Toate pinzele sus," and the award-winning film "Rascoala." He was awarded the Order of Cultural Merit, Class III in 1967 for outstanding achievement in the dramatic class. He was awarded the ACIN "Lifetime Achievement" in 1980 and the "Golden Age" in 2001. In May 2002 he was awarded the National Order of the Star of Romania in the rank of Knight. In 2006 he was honored with his likeness on a Romanian stamp as a "Great Romanian Contemporary Actor."
