Adopted. --from her obituary

"The things that set Pam apart from other people were her golden heart and sense of humor, but most importantly her genuine love for people, animals, and life. An individual who was mentally ill assaulted Pam in 2003. This assault began a series of tragedies leading to her being paralyzed from the neck down with no hope for recovery. Pam's attacker was prosecuted, and after a long three-year battle she was awarded over a million dollars for her injuries. Most people would have said, "let's go shopping." Pam on the other hand wanted nothing more than to take care of people who were less fortunate than she and the poor homeless, neglected animals. The only thing she really wanted was a Chihuahua puppy which she received on her January 17, 2007, birthday. The following March she developed pneumonia and passed away. At her request she was cremated and her ashes were scattered in Hawaii."
