JESSE JONES was born in North Carolina 1809-10 to Unproven parents. He had two brothers named David and Frederick. Jesse was married 3 times and his first 2 wives were sisters.

MARENGO COUNTY, ALABAMA.
Jesse was in Marengo Co., AL by the late 1830’s. His land was 4 miles from Demopolis, on the Tombigbee River.
On the 1840 Census he is shown owning 7 Slaves.

Pvt. Jesse Jones served in Co. D, Snodgrass Battalion, AL, in the 2nd Seminole War, (1837-1842).

January 14, 1841, Jesse married MARY ELIZA WESTBROOK, daughter of Moses Westbrook, Jr. and Martha Allen, from Lenoir Co., NC. Jesse and Mary’s only son, Flavius “Flave” Marcellus Jones, was born in 1843. They also had an unnamed daughter who died an infant. Mary died in 1846.

Jesse then married Mary’s sister ELIZABETH WESTBROOK, on Aug. 3, 1847. They had no children. Elizabeth died in 1849.

Mary Eliza and Elizabeth Westbrook Jones are buried in the Westbrook Cemetery on their father’s farm in Marengo, Co., AL.

Jesse then married MARTHA JANE SMITH June 12, 1850. The 1850 records show that Jesse then owned 12 Slaves, his land was valued at $6,000, and Overseer Edward H. Bonner was a member of his household.

Jesse and Martha had 7 children, one an infant who died unnamed. Their first 2 children, Frances “Fannie” Ida and William Fredrick were born in Marengo Co., AL. Jesse moved his family to Coryell Co. TX in 1854.

CORYELL COUNTY, TEXAS., 1854 to 1883
Jesse’s land in Coryell Co., TX was near Eagle Springs in the Station Creek area. The rest of Jesse and Martha’s children were born there. They were: Jesse Croom, James Herbert, Henry C., and Susana Alabama.
In 1860 records Jesse lists his occupation as “Gentleman”, his land was valued at $5,000, and his personal property was valued at $50,000, which includes the value of his now 19 Slaves.
Son Flave was studying Law at Baylor University when the Civil War began. Flave enlisted in Co. E, 26th Texas Cavalry and fought all four years of the War.

By 1870, Jesse’s real estate value was only $1,200 and personal property was valued at $1,400, his occupation was Farmer.
Jesse died in 1883. Martha survived him by 22 years.
