In 1887 Daniel went to London Ontario and started work repairing freight cars for Grand Trunk Railway. In I89O he was hired to build bridges for the C.P.R. in Nelson, in the Kootney district of B.C. and worked at this through the repairing of many bridges that were wiped out or damaged in the 1894 flooding.
In the summer of 1894 he met Margaret Hurst and on the 11th of December I895 they were married in Vancouver.
Returning to Revelstoke he was foreman of a crew for removing snow-slides From January - March of I896.
In April he ran a C.P.R. boarding house at Field,B.C. and twenty months later sold out and moved to Calgary, Alta. There he worked repairing bridges west of Calgary.Their first son Stanley was born in 1896 in Manitoba. In 1902 a second son, Ernest was born.
On the 1st of May 1904, Daniel was appointed Bridge Building Superintendent for the Crow's Nest Line.
In the winter of 1904 he resigned and became a travelling salesman for Canadian Wood Pipe and Tank Co.in Vancouver (a job that took him to Australia and New Zealand) but moved his family to Strathcona in 1905 where Cecil and William were born.
In 1909 he filed a water pipe patent #125379 for a wire wound wooden water pipe coated in asphalt.
Resigned in 1910 and was in charge of building a dam at Tussocks and in the winters of 1911 and 1912 built bridges for C.P.R. near Windermere.
In 1913 Daniel became street superintendant for the city of Edmonton. In February 1922 he went to Vancouver and worked on the C.P.R. and P.G.E. docks where he was construction foreman for piers "B" and "C".
On the 8th of December 1928 his wife Margaret was hurt in a car accident and she died in hospital in Vancouver.
