Death Calls Local Lady This Morning
Mrs. Wm. Simons Long a Resident of Rensselaer Dies Rather Sudenly Following heart Strokes.
Mrs. William Simons, for foty-two years a resident of Rensslaer and member of a family that settled in Gillam township a great many yars ago, died at her residence on N. Webster street about four-thirty o'clock this Thursday morning.
The sudden passing of the well-known and highly esteemed woman followed heart seizures, the first of which came about nine o'clock and the latter a few minutes before her death. Although Mrs. Simons had not been in good health for a number of months, she seemed as well as usual last evening before she was suddenly stricken. The severity of her condition eased to some extent as the night wore on, but shortly before daybreak she was again stricken and passed away. She had not been bedfast.
Mrs. Simons was born Grave Elizabeth Coppeas, daughter of Calvin and Sarah (Prevo) Coppess, in Gillam twonship on Janusary 30, 1877. Her firlhood and early married years were spent in the community of her birth. She was married to William Simons on March 18, 1896, and four years later they came to Rensselaer where she had since been a continuous resident.
Besides the husband, Mrs. Simons is survived by six children; Mrs. Orbin Warne, Mrs. Glen Burns and Jacob of Rensselaer, Mrs. Frank Carroll of Brook; Albert a member of the AER and believed to be in England at present, and Mrs. Ralph Humes of south of Rensselaer. Three children preceded her in death, Owen, James and Mrs. Sarah Hensler. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. Julia Turner and Mrs. Leona Daughtee of Gillam township and a brother, Mac Coppess of Gary. Several grandchildren are also number among her survivors.
Mrs. Simons was a member of the local Rebekah order in which she was prominent during her more active years and the Gleaners' class of the Christian church.
The sudden passing of Mrs. Simons came as a severe shock to all who had enjoyed her aquaintance down through the years. She was a kind and loving neighbor who in her quiet manner brought happiness to others through her daily thoughtful acts. In her death Rensselaer feels the passing of a good woman and true friend.
The funeral services will be held from the W.J. Wright Chapel at 2 o'clock Saturday with the Rev. Marshon DePoister in charge. Burial will be at Weston cemetery. The remains were taken to the late residence this afternoon and will be there until time for the service.
