Christine Griffin Lawrence died peacefully January 19, 2014. She was born July 7, 1915 in Jefferson County, Florida, the daughter of Joseph Bythewood Griffin Sr and Christine Bailey Mays. The family moved to Jacksonville in the 1920's but returned often to the family home, Lyndhurst Plantation. Mrs. Lawrence graduated from Robert E. Lee High School as class salutatorian and was awarded a Riverside Women's Club scholarship to attend Florida State College for Women. Her interest was art history. She began a career in Jacksonville as a real estate agent in 1954. Christine was a member of St Marks Episcopal Church, Florida Yacht Club, Riverside Garden Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Colonial Dames Jamestowne Society. She had numerous interests but her church was central.

Mrs. Lawrence was predeceased by husbands: Payton E. Scheppe Sr. (1954,) A. Lee Powell Sr. (1970,) and Ewing Lawrence (1990.) Her surviving family are Payton E. Scheppe Jr. and his wife Caroline McComb Scheppe, grandchildren Leise Scheppe Hammer, Carson Scheppe Hobby, and William Sumter Scheppe. Her great-grandchildren are John Milton Hammer IV, Frank Macduff Hammer, Caroline McComb Hobby, and Henry Lawson Hobby. Services will be private.
