Mrs James Frank Humphries of 1400 Piedmont Drive died at the Columbia hospital at 8 o'clock Friday night after an illness of several months.
Mrs Humphries, the former Rebecca Youngblood, was born in North Augusta, December 19, 1908, the daughter of Robert H and Laura Mattison Youngblood, now of Charleston. She had made her home in Columbia for the past 37 years.
She was a devoted member of Washington Street Methodist Church where she was very active in both Sunday school and church work. She was past president of the William Capers Sunday school class and vice president of the Womans Society of Christian Service. She was a member and also past president of the Camelia Garden club and a graduate of Winthrop College.
Besides her husband and her parents, Mrs Humphries is survived by two sons, James Frank Humphries, Jr, and Robert Nathaniel Humphries, both of Columbia; three sisters, Mrs Roy L Yelverton of Raleigh, NC, Mrs R E Harper of Tuscumbia, Alabama, and Mrs M D Kerby of Charleston; three brothers, C R Youngblood and Robert Hubbard Youngblood, Jr, both of Atlanta and James Acker Mattison Youngblood of North Augusta, and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held from Washington Street Methodist Church at 3:30 this afternoon. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The services will be conducted by the Rev W D Gleaton.
Active pallbearers will be: W R Bourne of Spartanburg, Dwight F Patterson of Laurens, B P Barber, M L Burton, Dr J J Petty and Robert Morrison of Columbia.
