Peter Winkle, age 72, passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2014, in Grand Rapids.

Peter was a lifelong minister to others, whether he was teaching mathematics to a class in Nigeria or Flagstaff, AZ, whether he was a pastor to churches in west Michigan, or a hospice chaplain; Peter was a man for others.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Diedric and Ida Winkle (VanEk).

He leaves behind his dear wife, Renee; his cherished children, Julie and Jeff; his precious nine-year-old daughter, Grace; and his mother and father-in-law, Stuart and Janice Visser. He also leaves behind three brothers, Fred (Betty), Harold (deceased) (Mary), and Terry (LouAnne).

Peter was a big man in so many ways and an outstanding athlete playing for the track and field, soccer, and basketball teams for Calvin College. He was a proud member of the undefeated Calvin Knights basketball team of 1960. Peter had the ability to fill a room and countless hearts as well. His family and friends will miss him.

By God's grace, Peter is enjoying eternal rest. Memorial services will be Tuesday, May 27, at 11 a.m. at Sinai Assembly of God (formerly Prospect Park CRC), 545 Central Ave., Holland, MI 49423, Rev. William Lenters, Rev. Paul Kortenhoven, and Chaplain Johnny Gruda officiating.
