Birth year estimated to be between 1785-1790 based on analyzing census records and his oldest son being born in 1809. Assumption is Andrew is at least 18 when married which would place his birth by 1790 if not earlier.

His birthplace is found on the 1880 census records for his children where they state he was born in North Carolina. Most of his siblings also state they were born in North Carolina except for his older sister.

Will is indexed as Andrew at courthouse but will is signed as Anderson. His son named after him appears to use both names as well. Record found in Miami County, Ohio under the following:
Name: SKINNER, Andrew - Monroe Twp. Page: 23 Date: 1820 Jan. 23 Recorded: 1820 Aug. 14
Wife: Nancy & all my children
Executors: brother Thomas Skinner
Witnesses: Isaac Mahurin, Thomas Skinner.

Wife: Nancy Johnson or Johnston
Last name of Nancy was assumed by the following:
1. Rowan County, North Carolina Division of Estates, Book A: 1807-1842, pages 41-43 lists the estate of David Johnston, dated June 15, 1809. David had 339 1/4 acres of land divided among his heirs. The land was divided into 6 lots of 56 1/2 acres each. Lot #1 to Jesse Johnson; Lot #2 - 56 1/2 acres and $171.42 went to Anderson Skinner(husband of Nancy Johnson); Lot #3 to Polly Johnson; Lot #4 to David Johnson; Lot #5 to Samuel Reed; and Lot# 6 to John Johnson. Widow is Mary Johnson.
Note: Within the same page the last name is spelled Johnston and Johnson. Relatives who appear to also move to Montgomery County, Ohio are mostly referenced as Johnson but there are references as Johnston. Widow Mary is listed as Johnston on the 1850 census in Montgomery County, Ohio.

2. A land deed dated 5 Oct 1810 between Anderson Skinner of the State of North Carolina and County of Rowan, and Samuel Edwards for 56 1/2 acres on land on the waters of Dutchman's Creek, next to Thomas Skinner for 196 pounds. [Recorded in Deed Book 22, Page 491, #1777.]
Grantor: Anderson Skinner
Grantee: Samuel Edwards
Note: Samuel Edwards is married to Mary Skinner-Edwards and sister of Anderson Skinner. So Anderson Skinner and his wife Nancy Johnston-Skinner sold the land to Anderson's brother-in-law and sister. This would place her living next door to her father. Since Anderson's son Jonathan says he was born in North Carolina in 1809 and his daughter Mary Skinner-Cox says she was born in Miami County, Ohio in 1811 it can be seen that Anderson Skinner and family moved to Ohio around 1810.

Andrew's will is filed in Miami County, Ohio in 1820 and that is where his widow Nancy is living on the 1820 census after he dies. Nancy has six children living with her on the 1820 census. A deed for Thomas Skinner(father of Andrew Skinner) who died in 1828 lists the children of Andrew Skinner as they are heirs to Thomas' property. The children of Andrew Skinner are listed as the following:

1. Jonathan Skinner
2. Mary Skinner
3. Sarah Skinner
4. Thomas Skinner
5. Sinar Skinner
6. Anderson Skinner

Jonathan and Mary Skinner are noted as lawful age so they are the oldest and Anderson Skinner's birth date reveals he is the youngest so children appear to be listed in birth order.
