Elizabeth "Betsy" Wilson was the daughter of Thomas Wilson and Mary Hensley born abt. 1833 in Burnsville, Yancey Co., NC. She first married Austin Nathan Honeycutt (s/o John Honeycutt and Jane Bradford) about 1845 in Yancey Co., NC and lived in Little Creek (Lewisburg) NC. She and Austin had 3 children: Mary Jane, Thomas Jefferson, Emily Cora. The marriage was cut short on August 15, 1862, when Austin died from "dropsy" contracted during active duty from the Civil War and sent home; he died while on furlough. Widow Betsy was left with 3 children to care for. When Austin was a child, Billy Bradford was the legal guardian of Austin and his siblings as their father John Honeycutt was killed. Their mother was Jane Bradford, Billy's sister. Betsy was well acquainted with Billy Bradford for several years and they married in 1866 in Yancey Co., NC. They had the following children: Andrew, Samuel L., Ishom, and Cordelia. Billy also had several children from a long term relationship with Polly Cooper. During the 1870 Yancey Co., NC Census, HH #82, William Bradford age 52, "farmer", property value 500/150, unable to read or write; Elizabeth age 38 able to read and write, Nancy Jane age 16, Thomas, age 14, Emaline age 13, Andrew age 4, Samuel age 3, Isom age 2 mos. Enumerated next door HH #83 was William Issam and Hannah (nee Cooper) Hensley's household which included Mary "Polly" Cooper. the d/o Hannah and Billy Bradford.

Gravesite Details

Her grave was originally marked with a field stone. In 2015, a white cross was installed in between her and 2nd husband Billy Bradford's graves.
