BLANK, Allan, 87, of Richmond, died Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at his home, after a brief battle with cancer. Born December 27, 1925 in the Bronx, N.Y., he was the beloved husband for 50 years to the late Margot Blank; son of the late Hyman and Gusta Blank; and the brother of the late Harry Blank. Relatives include his nephew, Dr. Mark S. Blank of Baltimore, his wife, Dr. Beth Brewster-Blank, their son, Samuel Blank; nephew, Dr. Howard Blank; niece, Joy Lederman; sister-in-law, Ann Blank; and many great-nephews and nieces. Allan's accomplishments as a professor of music composition were very extensive. A recent article elaborating his career appeared in the Richmond Times-Dispatch. Information about his life and achievements can be found at The Broadcast Music Incorporated (BMI), The American Composers Alliance (ACA), The American Music Center, and The Diehns Composers Room at Old Dominion University. A memorial gathering will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, December 2, 2013 at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., Midlothian. Inurnment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery for family members. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Allan and Margot Blank to the American Cancer Society.
