Sarah "Sallie" Williams was born on Nov. 26, 1829 in Georgia to unknown parents. On Aug. 13, 1846 in Clarke Co., GA, She marries George M. Brown, the son of Jesse Brown and mother believed to be Temperance Moran. Into this union the following children were born, Isham Jack, Uriah Columbus, Thomas Jesse, George W., Frances L. and Vina M.

George enlisted on Oct. 24, 1863 as a private in the Confederacy into Co. B, 27th. Regiment Georgia Volunteer Infantry, Army of Tennessee, C.S.A., Bibb Co., Georgia, Bibb Grays, or Rutland Grays and was killed at the Battle of Cold Harbor on June 1, 1864. George's body was laid to rest in a mass grave on the battle grounds of Cold Harbor, Virginia.

George's untimely death left Sarah now a widow at age 34 with six children still at home. Times were hard after the war ended but all six children managed to reach adult hood and all had gotten married but by the the time Sarah signs her will on March 22,1899, Isham Jack, George W. and Vina M., all three had died from one reason or another and were not included as an heir in their mother's will.

Sarah passed away on April 5, 1899 in Jackson Co., GA and was buried at Center Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Exactly, one hundred years later, two great, great granddaughters placed a military marker "In Memory Of" for George M. Brown next to Sarah's tall marker located in the Center Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
