Louisa was shot to death by her husband Benedict Himmel during a drunken rage. He had been threatening to do so for some time. The morning of the murder/suicide, he also threatend his two grandsons who were living with them at the time, John & Willie Hoehn. They hid the revolver in order to prevent that from happening. Unfortunately, Benedict had another one in the barn, and he used it on his wife, then himself. The grandchildren were able to run away without being harmed by their grandfather, but were unable to secure aid from their Uncle Rosenstiel in time for their grandmother.
