Sidney was the son of Rosebella Josephine married Walter Down and they immigrated to Canada in 1904 with their children. His siblings were Ada Ethel (who died in infancy in England), Walter Alfred, and Arthur George. Sidney died at age 22 from heart disease and is buried in the same plot as his parents.
