Marcella is one of 10 children of Thomas & Marcella (née McGowan) Tyndall of Skerries, Ireland.
In 1904, the 24 year old Marcella and her younger sister Elizabeth Tyndall left Skerries, emigrating to America, and settled in Brooklyn.
In 1908, Marcella, then 27, married 43 year old fellow Skerries native John McGowan. The Tyndall family & McGowan family knew each other and were neighbors back home in Skerries. In fact, Marcella & John were cousins through Marcella's mother's side of the family. A year later, 1909, she & John had their only child together; a son – John F. McGowan II, who was called Jack. They lived in the Marine Park section of Brooklyn near to John's brother Capt. Michael McGowan & his sister Lizzie McCaffrey. Two months later, her sister Elizabeth married Frank E. Ott in Brooklyn. (Back in Skerries, Marcella's sister Josephine married Thomas McGowan).
Marcella died suddenly in October 1910. At the same time period, shortly before or shortly after, her little son Jack died as well. Almost exactly 9 years later, Elizabeth Ott died suddenly in Queens.
✞ Marcella McGowan is buried in the family plot at Holy Cross Cemetery. Buried with her are John & his 2nd wife Rose. The burial location of her young son Jack is unknown.
