Irene Van Englehoven was born March 30, 1913 in rural Marion County, the daughter of John A. and Nellie De Raad Van Waardhuizen.

She attended fair Oaks Country Grade School near Cordova.

On October 25, 1934, she married rene Van Englehoven at Kirksville, Mo.

They farmed in the Fifield, Otley, Monroe and Pella Areas until they retired from farming in 1971. Moving into Pella, she then worked as a war clerk and nurse's aide at Pella Community Hospital and laer was employed by T&D Department Store.

Irene died August 7, 1991 at Pella Community Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers in infancy; and an infant grandson, Nathan Smith.

She is survived by her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Deryl (Pat) Smith of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two sons, Ronald of Knoxville and Marvin of San Clemente, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Earl (Angelene) Grandia of Pella.
