Angelene Van Waardhuizen Grandia was born August 1, 1917, to John and Nellie Van Waardhuizen near Otley, Iowa. She was educated in the nearby excellent country schools.

Ange was united in marriage with Earl Grandia on December 20, 1939. She and Earl were blessed with two daughters: Judith and Janice.

Ange was very involved in church and community organizations. A long time member of First Reformed Church, she taught Sunday School for many years, and was always a happy volunteer preparing meals and helping others. She was a member of the Federated Club and enjoyed working as a volunteer in the Windmill, the Scholte House, and various other Tulip Time activities, including representing the province of Gelderland. Angelene died December 19, 2010 in Oro Valley, Arizona, where she had gone to live in August of 2009 to be near her daughter.

She is survived by her daughters and their families: Rev. Judith Marvel of Tucson, Arizona, and Jan Vander Leest of Russellville, Arkansas, and their husbands Jim Marvel and Rich Vander Leest. Grandma had five grandchildren: Rev. Maj. Jake Marvel, his wife Misha, and their daughters Charis and Rebekah from Albany, New York; Jana Moore and her husband, Lt. Com. Vince Moore, from Yukosuka, Japan; Rev. Judson Marvel, his wife Jodi, and their children, Jayla and Jackson from Hudsonville, Michigan; Erin Vander Leest and her husband, Tom Pyle, of Round Rock, Texas; and Chris Vander Leest and his wife, Jennifer Peroyea, of Kirkland, Washington.
