George's mother Anna emigrated to the US while pregnant with George. She spoke no English so that made for quite a trip, her water breaking in the taxi trying to find the street she pronounced in a heavy German accent - husband Casper was staying with sister/brother-in-law (Hastreiter on Box Ave.), but she pronounced with a long "o" like "Bokes". Since the story was told first-hand, we know Anna Roetzer arrived in Buffalo NY March 8, 1907, the day George was born. Many of our German/Austrian relatives lived among Herman and Guilford Streets in Buffalo (btw. Genesee and Sycamore); Box Ave. is the north side of Genesee, and more east than Guilford. Today the Box Ave. home is destroyed.

George and Louise lived with his parents at 585 Lisbon Ave. after they wed in 1932, and for many years; son Geo. Jr. born there (likely son Robert too), until 1940. Remaining addresses: 3215 (rear) Bailey Ave. (1940), 528 Woodlawn Ave. (1950), 1000 E. Ferry St. (~1957), until his passing in 1968. Louise moved in 1972 to 2614 Parker Blvd. Tonawanda, a 64 yr old widow, the first home she owned in her life!

George Sr. died suddenly (heart attack) without warning in 1968 in their E. Ferry St. apartment. He'd laid down in the morning as Louise put coffee on, and Louise would wake him when it was ready. On this date, he never woke up. The day he was buried was bitterly cold and it added to the sorrowful day for Louise and family.
