Stella "Granny" Jones
Mrs. Stella Peace "Granny" Newcomb Jones, 95, formerly of Ladysmith, died Monday, Oct. 6, at Chippenham Medical Center in Richmond. She was a resident of Beaufont Health Care in Richmond.
Mrs. Jones worked in the cafeteria at Ladysmith High School for 18 years and was the first dispatcher for the Ladysmith Rescue Squad. She was a charter member of Ladysmith Baptist Church.
She was the widow of Clarence Newcomb and W.S. Jones.
Survivors include two daughters,two stepdaughters,three sisters,19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, at Swicegood Funeral Home in Danville with the Rev. Andrew Bullock officiating. Burial will follow in Scholfield Cemetery in Danville.
The family will receive visitors Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Ladysmith Baptist Church, Box 127, Ladysmith, Va., 22501, or Ladysmith Rescue Squad, Box 186, Ladysmith, Va. 22501 (Published October 7,1997).
