Clay James, age 67, of Newport, passed away Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at his home. He was a veteran having served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was an avid fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joel and Pearl James; sister, Juanita James, brother, Caulie James and son-in-law, Jay Acevedo.
He is survived by his wife Linda R. James; daughter, Deana James Acevedo; son, Jon B. James; brothers, Herman (Ruby) James, Grady (Linda) James; sister, Swannie Ellison; sister-in-law, Wanda James, brother-in-law, William (Linda) Valentine; grandchildren, Lindsay Brooke Acevedo, Alexa Jayden Acevedo all of Newport and Allen Christopher Turner of Lenoir, North Carolina; nieces, Joey and Debbie Ellison; nephews Randy and Scott James all of Newport; and friends of Volunteer Bass Masters.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Manes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 3:00 pm Friday, October 4, 2013 in Manes Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Glenn Ball officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery.
