Known as "Freddie" by his parents & siblings and "Van" by his wife, he was the youngest son of Dutch immigrants Hein "Harry" Van Mulligen & Fetje "Fannie" Spaan. Fred was born in Walteria, Ca and grew up in San Pedro & Lomita, Ca. He married Dorothy in 1951. They had 4 daughters and lived in Long Beach, Ca. Like his father, brothers, several uncles & cousins, Fred worked as a longshoreman in the L.A. harbor in Long Beach. He enjoyed hunting, making people laugh and spending time with his family & grandchildren in Baja, Mexico and Kernville, Ca.
