Nance is the daughter of Capt. Michael & Alice (née Britt) McGowan of Ringsend, Co. Dublin, Ireland. She was Baptised at the family's parish church St. Mary's Haddington Road.

After the sudden death of her mother in 1908, Nance lived with her sister Elizabeth Mansfield and Lizzie's growing family in Sandymount, Co. Dublin, as did a number of her young siblings.

In 1914 her aunt, Lizzie (née Gowan) McCaffrey travelled back to Ireland from her home in Brooklyn to escort young Nance on her emigration to America to join her father & a number of her brothers who were already there.

Nance & her brother Jack returned to Sandymount for the summer of 1920 and while there they became the Godparents of Elizabeth's son Morgan O.P. Mansfield, born that July.

In 1923 Nance married NYC native Art McLarney. They settled in the Marine Park section of Brooklyn and raised their 5 children at their 54th Street home, a short walk from her father's house and her brother Joe, his wife Alice and their family. For a number of years in the early 1930's her nephew Foncie Mansfield from Sandymout lived with them.

Nance and Art were devoted to their family, their house described as a loving home, their children remaining close friends and loving family members all their lives.

In her later years Nance moved to New Jersey to be with her now adult children.

✞ Nance McLarney is buried in her family plot at Fourth Calvary Cemetery with her husband Arthur & their sons Joseph Francis & Art Jr.
