James was a native of Skerries, Ireland, the port village where he married Ellen Duff and his 2 children, Harry & Alice were born. He emigrated to America about 1896. His wife and children followed in 1899.

Captain James Flood died suddenly on Saturday from heart disease while his boat, the Cape Breton, was lying at the foot of Division avenue, unloading a cargo of coal for the B. R. T. power plant on Kent avenue. Captain Flood lived on the barge.

His funeral services were held today in the chapel of 334 Wythe avenue, Interment following in Calvary Cemetery.

Captain Flood was born in Skerries, County Dublin, Ireland, and had been a resident here for twenty-one years.

He is survived by his widow, Ellen Marie Duffe; a son, Captain Henry Patrick Flood of the tugboat Frederick D. Underwood. and a brother, Henry Flood, of Skerries, Ireland.

Gravesite Details

Circa 2013, marble tombstone is in an extremely deteriorated condition, heavily worn away, with pieces chipped off and deep cracks in the cross. It's unlikely to survive another decade.
