Thomas was a master saddler and harness maker with his own shop, 1, The Bull Ring, Ludlow (pictured left). He and his family lived above the shop for many years, the shop is still there but is now a jewellers. Thomas was widowed when Ann died in 1926.

On Friday evening, at 6.30.p.m., the death occurred at no.1, Bull Ring, Ludlow, of Mr. Thomas Wainwright, saddler, at the age of 79 years, he would have been 80 in May.
The deceased was a well known tradesman and was highly respected in the town. He learned his trade with the late Mr. Gough, in Castle Street and later started in business. He was a Conservative and sidesman at the Ludlow Parish Church. Until a few weeks ago he enjoyed good health, but caught a cold from which he never recovered.
