Uncle John Henry West was left for dead on the battle field in France. One of the other soldiers was going to pick him up and carry him out when his superior officer told him to leave him as he was going to die anyway. He had a bullet in his chest near his heart. Sometime later another troop came through and one of the soldiers picked him up and carried him out and he was taken to a hospital where he was treated. The bullet reminded in his chest the rest of his life as the doctors feared trying to remove it might cause it to move and go into his heart.
