Walter Gray was the ninth and last child of James Davis and Rachel Minter Boyd. He was born in Choctaw County. He married Lillian Lucinda Cartledge on April 28, 1901. Except for a few years as a sharecropper in the Mississippi Delta, Walter spent his life as a farmer in Choctaw County, near French Camp. He and Lillian were the parents of five children: Augustus Minter, Lillian Mabel, Walter Jr., Ida Lou, and Richard L. Only Lillian (Lilly Mae) and Ida Lou survived to adulthood.

Funeral services for Walter Gray Boyd were held at Poplar Creek on Friday afternoon June 20th, with the Rev. Oren Sigler and Rev. Sam Patterson officiating. Lee Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Boyd was born in Choctaw County on December 25, 1870, passed away at his residence near French Camp on June 19th.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. W. H. Ward of Greenville and Mrs. A. E. Gatlin of French Camp. He also leaves five grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.
