Lodi,CA--Alfred Bender, 82, Lodi, CA and formerly of Zeeland, ND, died Saturday, August 5, 1995, at a Lodi hospital.
His funeral was held August 10th at Gierhart-Wells & Donahue Funeral Home. The Reverend David Mitchell of the First Baptist Church in Lodi officiated.
Burial was held in Cherokee Memorial Park, Lodi, CA
Alfred Bender was born Sept. 28, 1912, in Zeeland ND. He came to Lodi in 1936.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was stationed in the Aleutian Islands. He was also involved in the campaign in Europe.
After the war, he returned to Lodi, where he married Thelma Walker. He was a sheet-metal worker for 30 years and was employed by Lodi Sheet Metal and Bentz Plumbing and Heating.
He married Ann Kruk in the early 1970's.
In Lodi he was a member of the First Baptist Church, and a member and past governor of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge.
Survivors include one son, Allen Bender of Arkansas; three daughters, Marolyn Watts of Woodbridge, Carolyn Werner of Washington, and Betty Jackson of Seaside; three brothers, Jake Bender of Iowa, Reuben Bender of South Dakota, and Gideon Bender of Clovis, NM.; two sisters, LaRue Opp of South Dakota, and Ella Bender Hudson of Clovis NM.; six grandchildren; and three great-grand-children.
He was preceded in death by his second wife in 1988.
