UPDATE Apr. 2023: My spur of the moment trip up to Springfield Ohio in hopes of finding Greenmount Cemetery did NOT progress as hoped. Instead I waded into a grassy park, with a few gravestones, no signage, no office--apparently with picnic debris left and graffiti atop at least one broken tombstone. The veterans are clearly NOT honored here, so why is this classified as a "Military Cemetery"--who are they kidding? Really horrible, unless you have a chicken dinner and need a quiet spot to lay a blanket. Perhaps it is a popular local hangout. Do know that the lovely 1938 SAR bronze plaque which is shown in c2013 photos, seems to have been vandalized and removed from the large boulder.

Returning from this disappointing trip out I contacted the Clark County Engineers office, after re-reading my helpful Bio written a decade ago by me, in this findagrave entry; they sent me to Tax Maps; incredibly Robert Hiller actually found the plat, say referred to by Mary Skardon long ago, and kindly sent it to me--now uploaded. So hope this helps. But no Section 1 emerged, so perhaps Section L?

Bio:
Horace Pool was a prominent city official for the city of Springfield, OH during the 1850's. He was born circa 1807-1808. It is a letter dated 1 Jun 1973 preserved in the Mary Skardon Collection, Clark Co Hist Soc, Springfield, OH which tells us cemetery details for Horace Pool; here Mary was writing her client, Essen Jacob Pool (descendant of Wm2 Pool 1766/1854). Mary explained that she examined the cemetery book for Greenmount Cem in the City Engineer's Office, City Building, and in it found information including: Horace Pool, d. 28 Aug 1877 (No. 824), Lot all 83 and 84 Greenmount. Her entry for Mrs. Horace Pool includes the phrase Sec 1.

Mary Skardon also wrote that she found Horace Pool's funeral notice, Springfield Daily Republican p.1, Springfield OH Tues evening, Aug 28, 1877. Here we learn that Horace died at his residence located two and one half miles south of the city on the Selma Pike and that Horace Pool died in the 70th year of his age. Funeral services were held at his residence, 29 Aug 1877.

Mary also wrote in this same letter to E.J. Pool of the purchase of the cemetery lots: Horace Pool/City of Springfield Grantor V33 p330 Amt $10 lots 83,84 Greenmount Cem 4-30-1846.

I find some old notes from a phone conversation which I had with Sarah Jane M Poole of Springfield OH back in May 2006. Here she spoke of 2 notebooks which Walter Poole wrote, extensively describing the family May/Poole heritage. She also spoke of a cherry box, made for Louise May's (b1798 Isle of Guernsey) pictures. I hope someone is saving these treasures! I have not seen these. Sarah Jane explained, 2006, that their family line descended from Horace Poole who had 5 sons and 3 daughters. But the line narrowed since only two of these 8 issue, married: Oscar Poole m. ____; and daughter, Millie Poole m. _____. Oscar was the father of Walter Poole b. 22 Feb 1869 Richmond Ind (who kept the genealogy notebooks), with Walter being the father of H. Stanley Poole and also Ernest Poole (of Church of God, Lutheran). Please forgive errors here, but I am hoping these clues help to trace this line. Some of this line seems to be buried at Ferncliff Cem, so please add links.

So a Poole/Circle/McCormack line should descend from WmHoraceOscarWalterErnest. Your male YDNA from the Robert branch should align with my Poole plum group from John Poole, the c1640s miller of Wakefield, Mass area, so please test soon. [bio by DBardes, findagraver]
