AUGUSTA, Ga. - Entered into rest on Friday, May 17, 2002, at Augusta Hills Nursing Home, Mrs. Marie Peterson of Aleaza Street. Mrs. Peterson was a native of Augusta and a member of Springfield Baptist Church of which Rev. E.T. Martin is pastor where she served on the Trustee Board and the Senior Choir and was a Sunday school teacher. Mrs. Peterson was a retired Richmond County School teacher. She received her education at Haines Norma Industries Instuted and the Walker Baptist High School and graduate of Paine College. Upon receiving her college degree she taught in the McCormick County School System from 1931 to 1933, The Nixon School from 1934 to 1942 and from 1934 to 1942. C.T. Walker and retired from Monto Sano in 1976. Survivors include a devoted sister- in-law, Mrs. Lucille Southward; three nieces, Mrs. Phoebe Ali, Miss Qaunda Southward and Miss Saungaylia Southward; nephew, Mr. Brent Walker; godsons, Mr. Isaac Johnson, Mr. John Marion May and John Hardy who preceded her in death; goddaughter, Ms. Georgene Ayungo; great-great- nephews, Kindall Randolph, Jalen Randolph; great- great-niece, Brittany Walker; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 23, 2002, at 4p.m. from Springfield Baptist Church Rev. E.T. Martin officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery.
