The son of John Joseph & Julia Ann (Hoffman) Laudenslager, in 1860 he was a farmer living with his family in Lykens Township, Dauphin County. He stood 5' 5" tall and had dark hair and gray eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Harrisburg March 10, 1865, mustered into federal service there March 14 as a private with the second organization of Co. G, 103rd Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company June 25, 1865.

He married Sarah Yerger and fathered William Wilson (b. 04/15/68, d. 10/29/70), Henrietta (b. 10/16/69 - married William Romberger), Elizabeth (b. 06/14/71 - married Isaac Franklin Kinsinger), Henry Franklin (b. 07/26/72), Charles Penro (b. 01/16/74), John Adam (b. 08/04/75), James B. (b. 10/09/77), Edward Charles (b. 09/17/60), George Irvin (b. 05/14/82, d. 07/09/82), Sula Celesta (b. 05/11/85 - married Oscar E.
