The 2022 recipient of the the York County History Center's Chair's Award for publication of the South-Central Pennsylvania Civil War Database. It is available on the web site of the York County History Center at https://www.yorkhistorycenter.org/

As of April 2024, I have documented 27,000 Civil War veterans from south-central Pennsylvania, data amassed as much as possible from primary sources over thirty-five years of research. That includes more than 2,000 days at the National Archives in Washington DC reading compiled military service records and more than 9,000 Civil War veterans' pension files. I have read more than 15,000 Civil War veterans' obituaries (which tend to be quite inaccurate with regard to military data), accessed more than 20,000 death certificates for veterans and their family members, become intimately familiar with the censuses of that era, and have walked every cemetery in the region. This research will continue as long as my mind and body permit, and I am still going strong.

PLEASE: When contacting me regarding a post, include the Findagrave number of the post and the name of the individual to which you are referring. It will speed things up a great deal.
