Doris was born in Tuskegee, Ala. on Nov. 28, 1925 to James and May Abercrombie. She was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt.
Doris grew up in Appalachia, Va. and graduated from Appalachia High School in 1943. She married Jack G. Cooper of Keokee, Va. in 1946. They lived in Keokee, Va. until Jack's death in 2000.
Surviving is one son, Thomas, and wife, Connie, of Buchanan, Va. Also surviving are two grandsons, Matt Cooper of Fincastle, Va. and Jon Cooper and wife, Ashlyn, of Orlando, Fl. and one great grandson, Chase Cooper, of Fincastle, Va. Surviving nieces are Lucretia Thomas and Carol Strevel of Strawberry Plains, Tn., Susan Brown of Murfessboro, Tn., and Martha Necessary of Norton Va., and one nephew, Phil Cooper, of Hurricane, WVa.
Visitation will be on Wed. July 3, 2013 from 12:00-1:00pm at Holding Funeral Home (17 E. 3rd St., N.) in Big Stone Gap, Va. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Bill Hughes officiating
The burial will be in Eden's Cemetery in Keokee, Va. immediately following the service.
The family will serve as pallbearers.
