Marie's (was pronounced "Mary") step-father is Frank Hiza & mother is Anna Matejcek. Unsure of who her biological father is. Marie was born in Czechoslovakia. Marie came to USA in 1905. Her mother was born in Austria and immigrated in 1899 to Vienna Austria.
Marie lived in Manhattan and raised her 3 daughters and her only son Charley Macheras in the City. She and the kids worked hard to make "ends meet." Marie's 1st husband & father to the 4 children just left the family to fend for themselves. We still don't know where he ended up. I have researched FAG & ancestry.com and newspapers.com - I cannot locate any information on Theodore Macheras - born in Greece. (I found a Theodore Macheras in upstate New York - but cannot connect this and my research shows it does not fit other circumstances of this Macheras family. Theodore encountered his daughter Marie Wyrick in the 1950's or 1960's or ? in an elevator in Washington, DC. They spoke briefly. Theodore told her he painted buildings and/or houses.
In the 1920's the family was joined by a child named William "Willy" Quandt. His family could no longer care for him so he was "adopted" by Marie & her daughters. (FAG memorial #49302357.) Uncle Bill was a well-loved member of the Macheras family and remained so until the day he passed away. A couple of the Macheras sisters attended to his final resting place & effects. Uncle Bill remains in the hearts of members of the family. He is loved and thought of fondly by the family members who knew him and by those who never met him, but know him through stories of other family members.
