Death of George Schmeiser, an Old-Time Citizen.

George Schmeiser, the old-time machinist, died in this city last night. A few weeks ago he suffered a stroke of paralysis, which was the immediate cause of his death, though his health had been feeble for several years.

Deceased was a native of Germany and 68 years of age. He came to Sacramento in the early fifies, and established himself in business as a machinist. For several years his shop was on J street, near Third. Afterward he was forman for M.R. Rose in the latter's foundry at Ninth and K streets.

In early days Mr. Schmeister was Chief Engineer of the Volunteer Fire Department, and at the time of his death was a member of the Exempt Firemen's Association. He leaves a grown son, William Schmeiser.

The funeral will take place on Sunday next.
