Civil War Union Soldier. He was mustered in as a Musician 2nd Class in the Regimental Band of the 1st New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on July 19, 1861. He served through the 1862 Peninsular Campaign before the law authorizing regimental bands was repealed in July 1862. He was then honorably mustered out on August 9, 1862.
