Kenneth Bare
Kenneth Bare, 87, of Resort Township, passed away Dec. 17, 2002, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey. The Rev. James Mitchum will officiate. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at the funeral home.
Ken was born June 28, 1915, in Markle, Ind., and in 1917 the family moved to Royal Oak where he grew up and attended school. While attending high school he played violin in the high school orchestra.
In 1932, he moved with his family to Petoskey where he farmed dairy cattle and potatoes with his father.
On April 8, 1937, he married Evelyn Sneathen. He continued farming until 1953. He was co-owner of Bare Construction and for several years he was a co-partner of Petoskey Electric. He was community 4-H leader, a member and officer of the Resort Grange, clerk for Resort Township, headed the county AAA program, chairman of the Emmet County P.M.A., member of the Resort Township School Board, Resort Bear Creek Fire Department, and the Petoskey United Methodist Church.
He played softball on the Resort Grange and Bare Construction teams.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing and boating with his grand-children and family on Walloon Lake. Late in his retirement, he enjoyed making hooked rugs.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Evelyn; daughters, Martha (Doug) Aulgur of Petoskey, Sally (Jess) Kauffman of Ann Arbor; grandchildren, Kimberly Kauffman and David Kauffman, both of Ann Arbor, Dorothy (Joel) Wurster of Brutus, Clint (Lee) Ingalls of Boyne Falls, Matthew Ingalls of Alanson, Dwayne, Lydia and Deborah Aulgur of Petoskey; sisters, Helen (Lee) Sneathen of Charlevoix, Marilyn (Herb) Bachelor of Petoskey and Florida; sister-in-law, Marge Bare, of Royal Oak; brother, Richard (Eileen) Bare, of Petoskey; many special nieces and nephews; special children in his life were John, Donna, Randy and Elmer Bricker; eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Bare in 1980 and Susan Marie (Harshner) Bare in 1990; one brother, Donald Bare, in 1997; and a grandson, Kenneth Kauffman, in 1993.
Memorial donations may be directed to Hospice of Little Traverse Bay or to Petoskey United Methodist Church.
