Chief Justice, US District Judge. He was Chief Justice of the Territorial Supreme Court from 1866 to 1876, as appointed by President Andrew Johnson. He was then the first US District Judge for the State of Colorado from 1877 to 1906, as appointed by President Ulysses S. Grant.
