Death's Harvest

Roeder

Charles Roeder, the well-known
miller at Roedersville, Washington
township, died at his home on Tuesday
evening, August 15th, at 8 o'clock
of feebleness, incident to old age, at
the age of 82 years, 11 months and 8
days. The wife of the deceased de-
parted this life five years ago next Oc-
tober. Two sons and two daughters
preceded the parents to the spirit
world. The following children sur-
vive, namely: Mrs. Albert Kantner,
Mrs. Edward K. Spancake, Mrs. Wil-
liam Hummel, and Charles Roeder, of
this place; Mrs. Cyrus Ankerbrandt,
and John, at Roedersville, and Mrs.
Isaac Sotzin, of Pottsville. The
remains will be laid to rest in the family
plot at the Hetzel's church cemetery,
on Saturday, August, 19th. The cor-
tege will leave the house at 9:30 a.m.
Rev. H. A. Althouse, formerly from
this place, but now of Avon, will offi-
ciate. Undertaker P. E. Sheidy has
charge. Relatives and friends invited
to attend. Mr. Roeder was a miller of
the old school, who cared little for
Chicago's rise of wheat and flour, but
ground the farmers' grain in honest
toil and returned good measure. He
was born at Summit Station, and at
that place learned the trade of milling.
He worked at Strauch's mill Cressona,
for several years, and later to Roed-
ersville, where he operated for forty-two
years, and the village bears his name.
His familiar flour-dust covered figure
will be greatly missed. He leaves a
number of grandchildren. The pall-
bearers will be George Brown, Jno.
S. Herring, George Sherman, and Jno.
Sell.
