One of Madison County’s leading farmers, he was well known. Mr. Bryan operated a large farm on Walnut Creek, where he spent the greater part of his life. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Marshall and was noted for his deep interest in religious work and community affairs. He has always been known by his neighbors and friends for his honesty, integrity, and Christian life. He was joined in holy bonds of matrimony to Miss Lovada Griffin on May 14, 1875. Brother Bryan was a member of the Old Walnut Creek Baptist Church, then he united with the Madison Seminary Baptist Church and served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years. Leaving the Seminary Baptist Church, he came to Marshall in 1905 and united with the Marshall Baptist Church on the day of its dedication; his membership has remained there to this day, he was a deacon of the church and a teacher of the Men’s Bible Class. He served on the County Board of Education and as a Commissioner for a number of years. Marion was a teacher three years before he married. Marion and Lovada had twelve daughters and one son.
The minister conducting the funeral stated Brother Lewis’s birth date as January 30, 1852, and that Marion’s father and brother, John, were killed during the Civil War.
