His obituary gave his name as James Edward, but his middle name may have been Edwin.
From his obit: Mr. James Edward Bryan, well known resident of near Marshall, died at his home Tuesday afternoon soon after three o’clock. Mr. Bryan suffered a stroke Thursday last week and his condition was serious thereafter until the end came. He is survived by his second wife, who was before her marriage Lillie White. His first wife, who was Mrs. Julia Ramsey West. The deceased leaves no children.
Mr. Bryan had been a member of the Enoch Baptist Church for a number of years, having moved his membership from the Seminary (Baptist Church). Following the services, the body was taken to the Marshall cemetery nearby for interment. Speaking about his home near Marshall in the obit, “he had lived there for more than fifty years.”
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Interment was in the family cemetery. Dr. Oscar E. Sams and Dr. R.I. Moore, both of Mars Hill College, and the Rev. J.C. Pipes officiated. Mr. Bryan is survived by his wife.
