Author. Born in the Azerbaijan SSR, but raised in British-ruled Palestine, he graduated from the University of London with a degree in economics before becoming an editor and journalist in Israel. After moving to New York in 1952, he became a shipping company executive and taught himself Sumerian cuneiform, later visiting numerous archaeological sights worldwide. He wrote several books on topics proposing explanations for Earth and human origins. His research for his writing included ancient texts and original biblical writings of which he formulated hypotheses for manuscript. He was frequently a guest on the 'Coast To Coast AM' radio show, which presented Sitchin with a lifetime achievement award in 2010. His books of the Earth Chronicles series were The 12th Planet (1976), The Stairway to Heaven (1980), The Wars of Gods and Men (1985), The Lost Realms (1990), When Time Began (1993), The Cosmic Code (1998), and The End of Days: Armageddon and Prophecies of the Return (2007). His other published works were Genesis Revisited: Is Modern Science Catching Up With Ancient Knowledge? (1990), Divine Encounters: A Guide to Visions, Angels and Other Emissaries (1995), The Lost Book of Enki: Memoirs and Prophecies of an Extraterrestrial god (2001), The Earth Chronicles Expeditions (2004), Journeys to the Mythical Past, Bear and Company (2007), The Earth Chronicles Handbook (2009), and There Were Giants Upon the Earth: Gods, Demigods, and Human Ancestry: The Evidence of Alien DNA (2010). He suffered from prostate cancer and succumbed to the disease in the fall of 2010.
